Walk, Roll, and Share the RoadSeptember is California Pedestrian Safety Month, a time to recognize that everyone deserves to move safely through our communities, whether they are walking, rolling, biking, taking transit, or driving.
This month, help make every trip safer by staying alert, slowing down, and looking out for one another. Drivers can follow the speed limit, avoid distractions, and be prepared to stop for people walking at marked and unmarked crosswalks. People walking can use crosswalks when available, look both ways, make eye contact with drivers, and stay visible --especially at night.
Safer streets are a shared responsibility. Take the pledge to keep your eyes up, your phone down, and your community moving safely.

Effective Civic Tech Practices for Public Transit

Join this event to learn about the bumpy rollout of the Clipper 2.0 upgrade of the Bay Area's public transit fare payment system, how it is an example of endemic challenges in public sector technology project management and procurement, and about educational and advocacy opportunities to improve how future civic tech projects are implemented.
This event will be both in-person at the Internet Archive in San Francisco, livestreamed via Zoom, and is part of a broad Transit Month program of events and activities throughout September. A recording will be sent out to all people who RSVP and will be posted on Seamless Bay Area YouTube channel.
We are approaching the panel with a framing of optimism about the ability of public sector organizations to learn and improve, and that challenges are not primarily caused by individuals but the systems and structures, and the need for government competence to have the future we want.

Take the Week Without Driving ChallengeFrom October 1–8, 2026, join Week Without Driving and rethink what it takes to get around in our communities.
For one week, try to reduce or avoid driving yourself whenever possible. Walk, roll, take public transit, bike, carpool, use rideshare, or ask for a ride and pay attention to what works, what does not, and what barriers you encounter along the way. The goal is not perfection; it is to better understand the daily realities of people who cannot drive because of age, disability, income, or other circumstances.
Your experience can help spark important conversations about safer streets, more reliable transit, accessible sidewalks, and transportation options that work for everyone. Participate in the ways that make sense for your life, reflect on what you learn, and share your story to help build a community where everyone can get where they need to go. Week Without Driving takes place October 1–8, 2026.
