Letter from Move LA's Executive Director, Eli Lipmen

In 2024, we launched our inaugural SoCal Transit Week, and it was an incredible success! We held over a dozen events during the week, including a Scavenger Hunt, Dress to Impress Day, a South Bay Transit Summit, and more! We had dozens of volunteers, thousands of participants, and hundreds of thousands of social media hits through our influencer partnerships.

This year, we have a bigger vision to build a movement of transit riders throughout the month of September. This is why we launched SoCal Transit Month, presented by Metro, to deepen support of transit throughout Southern California, among transit advocates, community groups, transit agencies, businesses, and other stakeholders. We have almost 40 events across the region designed to expand engagement with potential allies, get more people to ride transit, generate favorable press, and help elected officials understand the importance of supporting and expanding transit. Our goal is to share the joy of riding public transit and build stronger relationships between transit agencies and transit riders/advocates.

Alongside our annual Policy Conference and Community Conversation, SoCal Transit Month is our premier event to engage in a conversation about changing the culture in Los Angeles—dominated for decades by the car—to a multi-modal future. Move LA is producing this event in partnership with Bay Area Transit Month, America Walks Week Without Driving, and the Coalition for Clean Air’s California Clean Air Day, and with the support of our Title Sponsor, Metro.
