Rail Infrastructure Beach Day

Did you know that you can take the train from Irvine to the beach? Grab your sandals, your swimsuit, your beach towel, and your $10 Metrolink weekend pass and join Californians for Electric Rail in celebrating the end of summer (and Transit Month) as we go from Irvine to San Clemente on September 28th.

On the trip we’ll also talk about the Metrolink investments needed to make transportation better in South OC and throughout the region, because car-free beach access (and the connection between California’s two largest cities) is at risk because of climate change and failing infrastructure.

Event Schedule:

  • 11:30am - Meet at Irvine Metrolink to learn about why the Orange County Maintenance Facility is so important and get important updates on the controversial project.
  • 11:59am - Ride Metrolink OC Line #1662 to San Clemente Pier. On the train, we will see the site of landslides that disrupted service for months last year, and talk about the stalled Serra Siding and what we need to get more frequent Metrolink Service (Make sure to bring $10 so you can get the SoCal Day Pass for the roundtrip)
  • 12:30pm - Arrive in San Clemente where we’ll get lunch and learn about the importance of the train to San Clemente’s economy
  • 1:15pm - Hit the beach! We’ll get a close look at the controversial riprap that has been installed near the beach to protect the train, talk about permanent solutions for the LOSSAN corridor in the face of sea level rise, and enjoy the sand and surf.
  • 2:59pm - IE/OC Line #1858 departs San Clemente Pier, arriving in Irvine at 3:28pm.
